Gatlinburg, "the Heart
of the Smokies", is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The city was founded as a logging town, but has since become a thriving city that brings millions of visitors each year to its quaint streets tucked away in the high mountain valleys. The city is renowned for its superb shops, fine dining, and many special events.
All year-round, the city offers special events such as the Wildflower Festival, the nation's first July Fourth parade (held
at 12:01a.m.), Craftsmen's Fairs, a Dickens-style Christmas Fair, and the ever-popular Winterfest during which the "Smoky Mountain Lights" are displayed throughout the city.
Popular attractions include Ober Gatlinburg, Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre, Hard Rock Cafe, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies,
and Classic Country Theater.
